As a driving force in industrial automation and an early adopter of industrial robots on its production lines, the automotive manufacturing industry has and continues to push technology innovation in machine vision. Precise calibration between robot and camera, accurate 2D and 3D object detection and pose determination in 3D space, meticulous inspection, and reliable track and trace capabilities allow manufacturers to further automate production processes. As a result, manufacturers can ramp up production rates, drive down costs, and improve manufacturing quality.
An emerging technology in the automotive industry in general is the collision avoidance system, which detects an imminent front crash using optical sensors, radar, or a combination of the two. In addition, autonomous robot manufacturers can use this imaging technology called “3D scene flow” to guide the motion of robots or autonomous vehicles safely and hand-in-hand with humans, enabling real human-machine collaboration. 3D scene flow works by using two consecutive stereo image pairs to determine uncalibrated (relative) and calibrated (real-world coordinate) 3D motion data.
SEETECH continues to remain in lock-step with the innovation demands of the automotive and robotics industries with these and other technologies.
